Anti-Flag: A New Kind of Army

Label: A-F / Go-Kart

Release Date:1999

Review Date: 2000

I haven't been this excited about a band in a long time. Anti-Flag are a political punk rock band from Pittsburgh, and have produced a great CD here. Mid-tempo pure punk rock (no metal influenced thrash crap here) with great tunes and even better lyrics. Every song is great, but standouts are "A New Kind of Army" and "I Don't Believe". Singer Justin Sane looks like a young Mike Ness, and writes songs like him too sometimes. Despite being very committed to the scene (they have their own label) and very socially conscious, they do have a sense of humor as shown by the last song on the album, "This is NOT a Crass song" which sounds very much like a Crass song, even down to the cockney vocals. Justin obviously likes Billy Bragg, because there is even a very Braggish song on here.
