Gameface: Four to Go

Label: Doghouse Records

Release Date: 2003

Review Date: 2003

New label for this bands' 6th release (that’s 4 if you are counting.)  These guys have been around since 1991, and that hasn’t stopped them from learning how to crank out generic punk influenced schlock that the industry is now calling post-hardcore. Even the artwork is beyond bland, straight form the inoffensive grunge–lite  school of design. Straight from the promo material:” Gameface’s music combines the best elements of punk (where? –ed.) , hardcore (???) , emo, and pop. They have a desire to to make music simpler; something more sincere behind a defined scene.”  Translation: Gameface makes music that is perfect for a 20 second fade in during a crane shot of a convertible driving on a highway in the latest semi serious teen coming of age flick, or perhaps even the same scene in a more mature flick aimed at appealing to younger audiences.  Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.  Post-emo is slickly produced personal-themed generic cud to be chewed up by today’s teenage cows.  Put on your latex gloves and retrieve a stool sample.  “Give Me Something Real?” Indeed, my good Sir! The press makes a big deal about these guys being able to “bring the rock” to their live show. There’s even a mention of “good old fist pumping arena rock!”  yeah right, that band already exists, and it’s called the Supersuckers. Gameface isn’t worthy to scrape the shit off their boots.
