The Mothers Anger:
The Mothers Anger

Label: Dionysus Records

Release Date: 2004

Review Date: 9/15/05

Ok. Your mental image of a two piece rock band from Israel calls to mind Nirvana, right? No shit! Think of a mixture of Bleach and Nevermind era Nirvana. It’s usually a bad sign when you hear another band being described as “____” for our times, and surely Nirvana has spawned legions of mediocre copycats.  The Mothers Anger may be at a disadvantage because not only their music, but the vocals are highly emotive of a certain someone. This self-titled first release is strong and believable enough in it’s sincerity that the obvious comparisons should be shelved. Just listen to it. It’s good, it’s earnest, and it rocks hard. Listening to this album gives the overall impression of an epic struggle being told, as if the band is under assault from all sides and making it’s last stand, tapping into a primal urge for self preservation. The Mothers Anger is 13 songs of droning thrash with intelligible lyrics, also sometimes reminiscent of Dinosaur and offshoots, but able to stand on it’s own.  Produced Mike Davis from the MC5. HOLD ON: They’ve released their second album Sniper for FREE on the internet. You can still buy CD copies directly from the band, which is a good idea. These guys are trying to get the word out. Take them up on it and do your part. I’m not even a stoner.
